The Challenge
As lawyers DLA Piper live and breathe client confidentiality, and have an exceptional commitment to protecting company information.
With the expanding use of email on mobile devices, National IT Manager Philip Christopher took steps to secure the company email accounts; both in the office, and when accessed externally over the internet from any mobile device.
DLA Piper also required the ability to completely wipe the company email accounts, securely and remotely, from any hacked or stolen mobile devices. As a law firm, documents are gold and need to be completely protected.

The Citrix XenMobile Solution
Deptive were commissioned to design and implement Citrix XenMobile to secure the company’s corporate owned mobile devices, and provide secure access to company email accounts from personal devices such as smartphones and tablets.
DLA Piper chose XenMobile as the basis of an integrated solution encompassing device and data management for both corporate-owned and BYO mobile devices. Deptive implemented a supporting architecture which can be expanded to deliver corporate apps and virtual desktops to those devices.
Citrix NetScaler provides secure external access to the Citrix XenMobile solution, removing the need to involve multiple vendors. DLA Piper saw value in choosing a single vendor end-to-end solution.
The ability to remotely wipe company email from any stolen device was the primary driver for DLA Piper choosing the XenMobile platform.
The in-house IT team can also create a wide variety of rules and policies to enhance email and mobile device security, including requiring PIN access, controlling which devices can access company email, Wi-Fi configuration and web content filtering.

What Next?
Deptive are continuing to work with the DLA Piper IT team to get the most from their investment, with usage of XenMobile expected to expand the in the near future.
Future projects include a Citrix virtual desktop solution which will integrate with the Citrix components already deployed.
